[23 Oct 2009|01:50am]
Man, I just went back in this thing, like, three years. And I love that the only constant is me swooning over girls who aren't interested in me.

And would you believe that's CURRENTLY HAPPENING!

Oh, yeah. I got this second email from Adult Swim:

Hi Devon,
We have received your materials and will be in touch once an executive has the opportunity to review.
Thanks,
Vanessa

So there's that.

Long story short, there is a girl. Because there's always a girl. And I have come to realize that I am the Steve Urkel to her Laura Winslow. Which a very humbling realization indeed.

I've decided to take a stroll down memory lane and post the episodes of the web series I did. Watch and learn...how to create something no one will see.

Maybe I will add some mild commentary, too.

This episode was originally episode three. I should probably just get it out of the way, since it's the elephant in the room. How we got Kyle MacLachlan is, he was working on a DVD at the production company Jason works at. I've always wanted to have Kyle MacLachlan be in something I did as himself. D'Arcy and I used to talk about it all the time. So, Jason asked him. He asked him and showed him episode one(which will come later) and he apparently really quite liked it and agreed to be in the show.

He had a few perfectly reasonable rules(No Twin Peaks stuff) and with those in mind, I wrote the short bit he did. And did quite expertly, I might add. This episode had already been written when he agreed to do the show. For those who are curious, the original ending was an homage to the end of the Thriller video. No one's ever referenced that, right.

The idea for this episode came from my very own life, how with my ex, I slept furthest away from the door and she never knew it was because I didn't want any monsters that might come in to get me. Personally, I think this shows what a modern man I am. Women are equal and should sleep closest to unlikely but possible danger.

The signs on the doors in the horror movie was editor Grant Rogers' bit.

One thing I'll hate forever is the fact that in the opening, you can see that the DVD Jason is holding is Seven. What's in the box.

I'm watching this documentary type show about prisons, like the country's toughest prisons.

And in this episode, this guy is in, basically, solitary for nearly starting a race war. And they asked him what he does, since he's been in solitary for something like two years.

And he says, "Pacing. Waiting for mail. Responding to mail, if you're lucky enough to get some. And there's still book seven of Harry Potter. I'm not doin' *nothin'* until that comes out."

My Bag Is Sinkin' Low And I Do Believe It's Time [03 May 2009|02:53pm]
For the past hour or so, my landlords' five(or maybe six) year old has been running around the backyard naked. Why...would that be.

I don't see him anymore, so perhaps the police have come and rounded him up.

In less exciting news, I've begun work on an American Dad spec script. I can't think of anyone who would be reading this that would really need an explanation of what that is, but just in case...a spec script is a script you write for free, to show that you can write a script, basically. In this case, a half hour TV script.

I thought about doing a 30 Rock, but there's probably a million 30 Rocks out there right now. Besides, you can't write a spec of a show you'd want to write for. And while I would like to write for American Dad, I'd rather write for a show that is not in L.A. It's funny to me that I'm even bothering, since most TV is in L.A. and most of the shows I'd want to write for other than 30 Rock are in L.A., but I have no interest in living in L.A.

I'm not even as interested in writing for TV as I used to be, but I'm going to try anyway. Because I know how to do it and it's certainly better than digging a ditch. I'm working on some other ideas that have nothing to do with television as well. We'll see what takes off.

UPDATE: He's back! No cell could hold him!

DOUBLE UPDATE: Now, he's naked and has three wooden shields. One on his back and one in each hand. Time for him to lead the naked Crusades. Also, I have to leave for work in about 15 minutes and I'd really love it if I didn't have to walk past a naked kid with three shields to get there.

Busta, What It Is Right Now [20 Apr 2009|12:30am]

Man, this is a movie I watched last night:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World%27s_Greatest_Sinner

And he truly was.

I bit the bullet today and used the part of my tax return that wasn't going to rent or bills to get a 120 GB hard drive for my 360. The goddamn thing's expensive, but I could use the storage space. What with all the songs I download for Rock Band. Does anyone even know what I'm talking about. If so, I commend you.

Wheatcakes [30 Mar 2009|10:49am]
So, I'm going to throw this into the ring and see if any interesting answers come out of it.

Yesterday, Jase & I were discussing the idea that Watchmen might sell more books than other comic book movies if only because it's all in one volume. With a Batman or Spider-Man movie, someone might say, "That was great, I'm going to check out the comics!" then go into a Barnes & Noble or something, see five shelves of Spider-Man books, and say: "Forget it."

The point was made by Jase that with Batman, at least, you might pick up Year One or Killing Joke or Dark Knight Returns. But he couldn't think of any definitive or even good Spider-Man stories.

Now, obviously, in a lot of circles the Lee/Ditko stuff is considered iconic--but I don't think someone who hasn't read comics for years already would have any attachment to those or find them good at all.

It's all subjective of course. But I was just wondering if anyone out there can think of any Spider-Man stories that they consider definitive, iconic, great, or good.

Where David Hyde Pierce investigates paranormal happenings.

Called The Ex-Niles.

So, I got a phone call today. From the NIELSEN RATINGS PEOPLE. And they're going to send me a 'diary' to write down everything I watch. My reputation for watching TV must be legendary.

I can't wait to cancel all your favorite shows.

I was walking today and noticed a place called 'Bangs Funeral Home' and next to it was 'Bangs Ambulance'. Which...strikes me as a conflict of interest.

So, I saw this video on filmdrunk.com:

And it's really amazing to me. These guys do 'clean comedy' for corporate events and that is their demo reel. And I love that 'clean comedy' has become more of a philosophy than a style. It doesn't seem to just mean 'no swears', it seems to also mean 'won't challenge what you think of things'.

Also, I like that 'clean' implies 'non-offensive', but I see lots of offensive things there. And lots of references and impressions that are at least ten years old. I like that the Austin Powers impression seems to be for people whose frame of reference is an earlier Austin Powers impression.

This is their demo reel!
